I am originally from upstate New York, just outside Adirondack Park, near Saratoga Springs. I attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, earning a BS in Nuclear Engineering and a ME in Environmental Engineering. After College, I served in the US Submarine force, deploying aboard the USS Virginia and USS Albuquerque as an officer. After my military service, I moved with my family to the great state of Idaho, where we reside between Idaho Falls and Victor. I worked briefly in the potato industry as a business manager for a little over 3 years. I started in the financial industry as an independent financial advisor for Waddell & Reed in 2014. I transitioned to LPL Financial, in 2019 and started Teton Wealth Management.
Over many years working in the industry I have noticed industry short comings. As my business grew and I chose to refocus the direction of my practice, I set out to solve several of those problems, specifically around the aging process and multi-generational wealth planning. You can learn about what makes Canavan Wealth different by looking at our 3 fundamentals. I still operate as Teton Wealth locally in the Idaho Falls area, but have rebranded as Canavan Wealth for my remote practice and specific approach to multi-generational planning.
I hope to meet your family someday, so here is an introduction to mine. My wonderful wife, Catie, grew up in a similar area of Upstate NY and was a practicing Occupational Therapist for over 15 years, before completing her doctorate and becoming a college Professor at the Idaho State University, where she currently teaches in the Masters of Occupational Therapy program. We have two wonderful children, twins, Annie and David. They graduate High School in the spring of 2023. Annie is an aspiring veterinarian; she is looking at agriculture schools on the east coast for a degree in animal science. David loves all things outdoors and is looking at engineering schools closer to home in Idaho. His true passion, along with his father, is fly fishing.
We’re multi-generational around here at Canavan Wealth, so it seems fitting to discuss the senior generation as well. All four of our parents are retired New York State teachers. They all currently reside in upstate New York. Both Catie’s and my own folks were instrumental in starting our education in financial responsibility and we would not be where we are today without their help and guidance. Thank you!
